Up till the time when Mr. Alim Khan handed me the funds in

his hands nothing more than had been paid had accrued to Government

The case of Shek Fuk: another case of Letters of Administra-

-tion: $11.50 paid to Alim Khan on 16.4.13: the file is missing

altogether: I could not find the file.

The files are kept in open pigeon-holes.

Petition was filed on January 6th., 1913.

The only indication I have about this case is a paper applying to the Secretary for Chinese Affairs as to whether the sureties

were good or not; and the Deputy Registrar's note (dated 20.5.13)

indicating that they were no good: received the money on August

9th.

The 11.50 included all the fees.

hr. Alim Khan gave the applicant a receipt on 16.6.13 for all

the monies.

The case of Nem Ly Singh: Letters of Administration: amount

813.20: paid to kr. Alim Khan 17.4.1913; he retained it all till

12.7.13 when he handed it to me; these letters of administration

were handed ld.7.13: I do not know the cause of the delay: there is

a note of the fact of payment: there is nothing to indicate the

cause of the delay in the file.

The case of Essah Nooraha: Letters of Administration: amount

89.20: paid to Mr. A. Khan on 19.5.13: all retained by him until

7.7.1913. These Letters were handed out about 16.7.1913. The

amount was insufficient: I see no indication of a receipt in the

file (vide Exhibit B).

The Chan Low Yin: Letters of Administration: amount 84.80:

paid to Alim Khan 27.5.13; retained by him til July 12th.; and

then sent to me (vide exhibit C): Mr. McElderry signed the grant

before the stamps were on, apparently no delay here but the Court fees were not in fact affixed: the file was not numbered although

completed.

No money has been lost to Government and Alin Khan has paid

everything to me.

I heard in the autumn of 1912 that Mr. Alim Khan had

received
